Welcome!
Hi! Welcome to my blog!
Here, you’ll find my textile design, garment pattern making processes and my sewing journey. I must say, I am a little nervous putting myself out for all the world to see, however, I hope to have lots of fun, and look forward to the interaction with other like-minded people.
A few years ago, I started my YouTube channel (That’s Sew Rochelle). I was making garments, sharing what I had made, doing fabric and pattern hauls, and I loved it! I especially enjoyed the fabric with bright colors and bold prints. That really sparked something in me; I had a strong desire to learn textile design. I wanted to design the fabric for my sewing projects, and so my journey into the world of surface pattern design began.
I researched and found classes on YouTube, particularly Oksancia. I also found lots of great classes on Skillshare, and a few blogs. I was very intrigued and determined, but, I had so much to learn, and a long way go. There were times when I was frustrated, but, never discouraged. Instead, I knew I needed to work harder. With no official drawing or painting skills, my artwork was not the best, it certainly wasn’t what I had envisioned. But, I was determined to get my skills up to standard, so, I began watching more videos, visiting more blogs and reading books, to learn drawing, painting in watercolor, and how to use Adobe illustrator and photoshop. With all of that hard work, I have come to realized, this is something I am extremely passionate about. I enjoy everything about it, planning the design, the artwork, the coloring process, all of it.
I’ve continued learning all I can, and I am still working diligently to become better with each design. I know now, that although I’m still not completely confident in my skills, they have certainly improved, and it is time to share. So, I am putting aside my fears and insecurities and hoping for the best.
I am sharing my journey to becoming a great textile designer, a better seamstress and garment pattern maker. Who knows, maybe I’ll inspire others to pursue their own creative journey, and bring their dream to fruition.
